What are the characteristics of special steel continuous casting

Compared with ordinary steel continuous casting, special steel continuous casting has the following characteristics:

  (1) Special steel has a large number of alloying elements, a high content, and a wide range of carbon content (0.02%~2.3% C). Due to the influence of alloying elements, its solidification characteristics differ greatly from ordinary carbon steel.

  (2) The requirements for purity, uniformity, gas content, macrostructure, and inclusion morphology of special steel are higher than those of ordinary carbon steel.

  (3) Some special steels contain active elements such as Cr, V, Ti, Nb, Al, etc., which are easily reacted with oxygen and nitrogen to generate high melting point compounds, posing a certain risk to the quality of the casting billet; Some alloy elements also form carbides or carbonitrides with carbon in the steel, which are prone to high-temperature solid phase precipitation and have a significant impact on the thermoplastic properties of the steel.

  (4) Due to the special cooling and solidification conditions of the continuous casting process, component segregation and uneven microstructure are more prominent.
